The Great Witley village hall is a charity run community hub which has a thriving pre-school and baby & toddler group and is used by many and varied local community groups.  When the village hall was built in 1991 it developed a small playground at the rear of the hall  and money was later donated by a local family, the Quartermans, which was used to develop an outdoor tennis court now known as the Quartergreen.

In 2009 there was a community project to develop Bowens Field (a playing field in the centre of the village which had been donated by a previous Chair of the Parish Council) and provide access via a footpath from Stourport Road through to the rear of the Village Hall. Thanks to this project the Quartergreen area and playground have excellent access to car parking and are at the centre of the village, next to the school and doctor’s surgery.

A grant from Malvern Hills District Council enabled the changing room at the court to be completely refurbished then in 2016, thanks to money from Bloor Homes following the building of new houses in the village, there has been a total refurbishment of the tennis court which is now a multi-sport area.  New equipment is now in place in the children's play area and an adult exercise trail along the pathway from the court into Bowens Field has been installed.  Care was taken to ensure that the play area and access path were suitable for wheelchairs and children's pushchairs to enable everyone to enjoy the facilities.

Since the refurbishment the area has literally come to life, the play area is attracting families from surrounding villages as well as those from Great Witley and is put to great use by the local pre-school.  The multi-sports court is in almost constant use by children and adults alike and has attracted many  groups who now make block bookings for various sporting activities.  The local primary school, in partnership with the Quartergreen, have held tennis and basketball coaching sessions during the summer months and there has also been independent football coaching weeks which are extremely popular.

The Quartergreen Sport and Leisure Committee continue to raise funds for the maintenance of the court by holding various events throughout the year, which are very well attended and very popular.   SEE OUR NEWS PAGE FOR FURTHER UPDATES
